Syngenta supports Florida Automated Weather Network (FAWN), donates to supplement recent funding loss

Continuing its investment in Florida agriculture, Syngenta is donating funds to the Florida Automated Weather Network (FAWN) after learning government and university funding is being cut.

FAWN, a function of the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS), provides Florida growers with accurate weather data and weather-related tools 24 hours a day through its network of 35 measurement sites. The data gathered at these sites, along with tools related to cold protection, irrigation scheduling and disease control, can be accessed free-of-charge at the FAWN Web site which is located at http://fawn.ifas.ufl.edu. The current conditions at any FAWN site are also accessible by calling the FAWN Data Hotline at 1-866-754-5732 and entering the three-digit station ID number of the nearest FAWN tower.

“We believe FAWN is integral to Florida growers producing quality crops, and to helping them make accurate agronomic decisions,” said John Taylor, Syngenta technical support representative. “All facets of Syngenta – Crop Protection, Seed Care, ROGERS® and Professional Products – are pleased to donate funding to help FAWN operate during its financial difficulties.”

Supporting IFAS initiatives is not new for Syngenta. Syngenta provides significant annual research grants supporting a wide array of Florida crops. Additionally, Syngenta sponsors a variety of IFAS local extension and grower educational meetings.

In addition to its support of IFAS, Syngenta has a long history of investing in Florida agriculture. This includes offering summer internships for more than 20 years, and sponsoring both the Florida Fruit & Vegetable Association annual scholarship and the United Fresh Recall Seminar in Florida this October. Syngenta supports multiple state associations including Florida Citrus Mutual and the Florida Fertilizer & Agrichemical Association. Syngenta is in a unique position to support Florida growers through local research conducted at its Vero Beach Research Center and the Syngenta/ROGERS Seeds research station in Naples, Florida.

Syngenta is one of the world's leading companies with more than 24,000 employees in over 90 countries dedicated to our purpose: Bringing plant potential to life.
