Headline fungicide cotton field trials show an average increase of 65 lbs. lint/acre - BASF data confirms that Headline consistently increases yield potential year after year

Research Triangle Park, North Carolina
April 20, 2009

BASF has released results of its 2008 on-farm field trials of Headline® fungicide in cotton that demonstrate an average increased yield of 65 lbs. of lint/acre and minimized crop risk through the control of key mid- to late-season foliar diseases.

In the 77 on-farm trials conducted in 2008, Headline, the most researched fungicide on the market, showed a consistent lint/acre yield advantage.
This confirms the 67 replicated trials conducted in the past four years with Headline on cotton.

Average cotton yield increase of 94 lbs. lint/acre with sequential bloom applications
Headline applications maintained high lint quality, including uniformity, fiber length, color and strength, while increasing yield

“We are very impressed with Headline’s increased yield potential for cotton, disease control and Plant Health benefits,” said Amber Shirley, Ph.D., Technical Marketing Manager with BASF. “The successful on-farm field trials show that cotton growers can obtain the same benefits in terms of yield, disease control and Plant Health that corn, wheat and soybean growers have come to expect with the use of Headline on their farms.”

Cotton diseases controlled by Headline include Alternaria leaf spot, Ascochyta blight, Stemphyllium leaf spot, Anthracnose boll rot, Ascochyta boll rot, Diplodia boll rot, Fusarium hard lock, Phoma blight and rust.

“When looking at field trial results in cotton from the past six years, Headline has averaged a 65 pound lint/acre increase,” Dr. Shirley said.
“The 2008 results confirm that Headline has consistently increased yield potential year after year.”

Headline is an ideal tank-mix partner and can be mixed with an insecticide and Pentia® plant regulator, which helps growers avoid extra application cost. Headline is a part of the BASF line of trusted products for cotton farmers, including Prowl H20® herbicide, Pentia plant regulator and Distinct® herbicide.

Headline also has shown consistent yield advantages in other crops. Farm trials in 2008 confirmed yield advantages of 14 to 16 bushels/acre in corn, four to eight bushels/acre in soybeans and eight to 10 bushels/acre when applied at flag leaf in wheat.
