Syngenta Crop Protection's Voliam Flexi insecticide receives U.S. registration

.

Greensboro, North Carolina
September 26, 2008

Syngenta Crop Protection announced today the federal registration of Voliam Flexi™ insecticide by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Voliam Flexi is approved for use on potatoes, pome fruit, stone fruit and grapes. State registrations or specific crop and/or pest uses may still be pending in certain states. Please check with your state regulatory agency to determine registration status.

Voliam Flexi features two modes of action to protect crops from chewing and sucking insects as well as lepidopteran pests. It contains chlorantraniliprole (CTPR), a new mode of action from the diamide family of insecticides and thiamethoxam, a member of the neonicotinoid class of chemistry. These two active ingredients are combined in an enhanced solution that delivers a broad spectrum of control of damaging insect pests in potatoes, pome fruit, stone fruit and grapes.

“Different insect pest populations often overlap in these fruit and potato crops, and growers can maximize their window of opportunity by controlling beetles, leafhoppers, aphids and worms at the same time, with one product,” said John Koenig, Syngenta insecticide brand manager. “Voliam Flexi provides a flexible, convenient option with excellent efficacy and long residual activity. In fact, the broad-spectrum control of Voliam Flexi makes it an excellent replacement for organophosphate (OP) and carbamate insecticides.”

Voliam Flexi is a valuable resistance management tool and is highly compatible with Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs. It will help growers combat a number of insect pests so they can achieve the maximum yield potential from the crop.

“It’s always exciting to bring a new product to the market,” Koenig added. “It’s especially exciting to deliver a tool that raises the bar on performance and frees up growers to think about things other than insect control.”
