Pioneer Hi-Bred, a DuPont business, has filed a lawsuit
against Pioneer Grain to protect its rights to the Pioneer brand
name as it relates to agricultural seed sales, marketing and
distribution in Canada.
“A strong brand is the most important asset a company can have,”
comments Ian Grant, President of Pioneer Hi-Bred Limited in
Canada. “Pioneer Hi-Bred is the only company that has the right
to use the Pioneer brand name as it relates to the marketing and
sale of seed in Canada.”
Operating in nearly 70 countries, Pioneer Hi-Bred is one of the
largest seed companies in the world and the largest seed company
in Canada. Pioneer Hi-Bred is a completely separate and distinct
company that is in no way connected to Pioneer Grain, which is
owned by James Richardson International. A long-standing legal
agreement between the two companies states that Pioneer Hi-Bred
is the only company that has the right to use the Pioneer brand
name for agricultural seed sales in Canada.
As a premier seed supplier, Pioneer Hi-Bred is committed to
providing value to the Canadian farmer through high quality
products, exceptional science and unparalleled service. In
Western Canada, the company is expanding and investing heavily
in building market share. In the last year, the company has more
than doubled its field staff in the west and has opened a
state-of-the-art $12 million seed production plant in
Lethbridge, Alberta.
“Our goal is to be the number one canola seed supplier in this
market,” Grant confirms. “We have the products, we have the
people, we have the production facility and we have the
worldwide resources and extensive investment in research that
will help to make us the leader.”
Established in 1946, Pioneer Hi-Bred Limited is Canada's
premier seed company and a wholly owned subsidiary of Pioneer
Hi-Bred, a DuPont business. Pioneer Hi-Bred is the world’s
leading source of customized solutions for farmers, livestock
producers and grain and oilseed processors. With headquarters in
Des Moines, Iowa, Pioneer provides access to advanced plant
genetics in nearly 70 countries.
