Multiple year data confirms advantage of Monsanto YieldGard VT Triple technology on rotated ground

.

Guelph, Ontario, Canada
December 3, 2008

The results are in and for a second consecutive year Monsanto's YieldGard VT Triple hybrids proved that it pays to use Monsanto corn technology on rotated ground. Multiple year data confirms YieldGard VT Triple corn provides a yield advantage on rotated ground relative to products without protection against corn rootworm from the same genetic family. Over two years and 155 sites, YieldGard VT Triple has a yield advantage, on average, of 2.8(i) bushels per acre on rotated ground.

"With land and input costs high, Canadian growers are interested in maximizing the productivity from each acre of land," says Mike Nailor, trait marketing manager for Monsanto Canada. "By taking advantage of YieldGard VT Triple technology, our latest research confirms that growers can be confident they will be maximizing their profitability when using this technology on rotated ground."

Launched in Canada in 2008, YieldGard VT Triple provides above and below ground insect protection and offers growers the flexibility to use Roundup® brand agricultural herbicides as their weed control system. Originally designed for areas with high rootworm pressure, Monsanto Canada's Technology Development group discovered that the bigger and healthier roots of YieldGard VT Triple plants also showed tangible benefits on rotated ground.

Dr. Mark Lawton, technology development lead for Eastern Canada says that YieldGard VT Triple has proven advantages on rotated ground in both dry and wet years.

"The advantage of YieldGard VT Triple on rotated ground was obvious in a dry year like 2007 since it's root mass was generally larger and healthier and the plants were better able to seek out available moisture," says Lawton. "But to see a similar yield response in a wet year like 2008 confirms that the advantages of YieldGard VT Triple on rotated ground are real and beneficial."

YieldGard VT Triple products are available from leading seed brands in Ontario and Quebec.

(i) Based on 155 Monsanto conducted trials 2007-2008. Trials compared YieldGard VT Triple and YieldGard(R) Plus with Roundup Ready Corn 2 versus products without protection against corn rootworm with the same genetics.

Always read and follow pesticide label directions.
Roundup Ready(R) crops contain genes that confer tolerance to glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup(R) agricultural herbicides. Roundup agricultural herbicides will kill crops that are not glyphosate tolerant. Roundup(R), Roundup Ready(R), YieldGard and YieldGard VT Triple are trademarks of Monsanto Technology LLC.
