Corn yield harvest results show
that, on average, corn seed hybrids containing YieldGard VT
Triple™ technology - the next generation of YieldGard(R) insect
control products - from
Monsanto Canada achieved a yield advantage of 10.1 bushels
per acre over similar Pioneer hybrids containing Herculex(R)
XTRA technology. In addition,
DEKALB brand YieldGard VT Triple hybrids were 0.2% drier on
average in the same comparison.(i)
This yield advantage is based on the results from an average of
over 150 field comparisons conducted in 2008 across Ontario and
Quebec comparing DEKALB hybrids with YieldGard VT Triple
technology versus Pioneer® hybrids with Herculex XTRA.
Bob Thirlwall, DEKALB agronomist encourages growers to ask lots
of questions about the data they view. "Be sure that the proper
traits are being compared against each other and that the
maturities are comparable," cautions Thirlwall. "Not comparing
proper maturities may have positive results for yield but not as
favourable on moisture which can mean a lot when you factor in
drying costs."
Denise Hockaday, DEKALB marketing manager says the momentum of
DEKALB brand YieldGard VT Triple products is increasing, noting
that growers who planted DEKALB brand YieldGard VT Triple
hybrids in 2008 were very pleased with their results this fall.
"Even with the great production year in 2008, DEKALB brand
YieldGard VT Triple hybrids were top performers in the field,"
said Hockaday.
YieldGard VT technology involves a more precise gene insertion
process, known as Vector Stacked Transformation, or
"VecTran(TM)," to create enhanced, stacked-trait hybrids. The
result is improved consistency, even better insect control and
higher yield potential than the first generation of YieldGard(R)
products. YieldGard VT Triple combines YieldGard VT
second-generation rootworm control with YieldGard Corn Borer and
Roundup Ready(R) 2 weed control technology.
YieldGard VT products have a highly active and more consistent
promoter of the rootworm control gene. This means more
consistent levels of the insect control protein are present in
YieldGard VT Triple hybrid roots to create a barrier of
protection.
Benefits of YieldGard VT Triple products are even seen on
rotated ground. Research to date concludes that YieldGard VT
Triple products yield on average 2.8 bu/acre higher on rotated
ground than YieldGard Corn Borer/Roundup Ready Corn 2
products.(ii)

Always read and follow pesticide label directions. Roundup
Ready(R) crops contain genes that confer tolerance to
glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup(R) agricultural
