Intellectual property fosters research and development in agriculture

April 26th is World Intellectual Property Day. The day is designed to increase public understanding of intellectual property and demonstrate how the system fosters the products and technological innovations that help shape the world.

Tim Johnson, President of Illinois Foundation Seeds and American Seed Trade Association Board Member, speaks to the National Association of Farm Broadcasting (NAFB) on the importance of intellectual property protection and the future of agriculture.

Founded in 1883, the American Seed Trade Association (ASTA), located in Alexandria, Va., is one of the oldest trade organizations in the United States. Its membership consists of about 750 companies involved in seed production and distribution, plant breeding, and related industries in North America. As an authority on plant germplasm, ASTA advocates science and policy issues of industry importance. Its mission is to enhance the development and free movement of quality seed worldwide.
