The
California Planting Cotton Seed Distributors recently
contributed $75,000 to expand the research and educational
activities of the Seed
Biotechnology Center at UC Davis. This contribution
represents the final payment of a $100,000 pledge by the
California Planting Cotton Seed Distributors.
During the gift presentation,
California Planting Cotton Seed Distributors’ Chairman, Don
Cameron, expressed the members’ gratitude for the work that the
Center is doing to tackle difficult challenges that are facing
the cotton industry. He said, “Our investment in the Seed
Biotechnology Center represents the board’s confidence that this
funding will translate into continued accomplishments on behalf
of the cotton industry and all of agriculture.”
The Board of Directors, members and management of California
Planting Cotton Seed Distributors were early supporters of the
establishment of the Seed Biotechnology Center at UC Davis. As
co-founders, the California Planting Cotton Seed Distributors
recognized the agricultural industry’s need for an independent,
science-based center dedicated to seed and plant research,
teaching and public service.
Now in the eighth year of operation, the Seed Biotechnology
Center has established itself as a major innovator for
agriculture. Cotton plays an important role in the activities of
the Center. Members of the cotton industry serve on the Center’s
Board of Directors, are actively involved with cotton research
projects, and participate in educational courses.
Center Executive Director Mike
Campbell says, “The California Planting Cotton Seed Distributors
were instrumental in the creation of the Seed Biotechnology
Center by committing their industry influence and financial
support to move the Center’s development forward.”
