Monsanto Canada is pleased to announce the appointment of
Dr. Brian Treacy to the position of director, regulatory affairs
based in Ottawa.
In this role, Dr. Treacy will be responsible for directing
Monsanto Canada's regulatory and compliance teams to manage
biotechnology and herbicide safety approvals. He will also work
closely with Monsanto's global regulatory team to coordinate
international regulatory requirements with other world areas
such as China, Japan and Europe. Monsanto Canada's regulatory
office is responsible for managing plant biotechnology approvals
in crops such as canola, soybeans, corn, alfalfa, sugarbeets and
cotton, as well as pesticide approvals for Roundup(R) brand
herbicide products.
Dr. Treacy joined Monsanto in 2001 and previously held the role
of manager, regulatory affairs (biotechnology) with Monsanto
Canada. Prior to joining Monsanto, Brian completed a
post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Alberta and later
worked for Ag-West Biotech in Saskatoon.
Dr. Treacy is a molecular biologist by training, with research
experience in both plant and animal reproductive technologies.
He is a graduate of Bishop's University's biology program (1992)
where he was introduced to plant biotech by working on herbicide
tolerance in canola. He later obtained his Ph.D. in molecular
biology from the University of Ottawa (1997), working in
Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's Eastern Cereal and Oilseed
Research Centre.
Dr. Treacy replaces Bob Ingratta who retired from Monsanto
Canada effective Nov. 12, 2007 after 32 years of dedicated
service. Mr. Ingratta had managed Monsanto Canada's regulatory
affairs office in Ottawa since 1989 and held positions in
research, sales, marketing and government affairs, throughout
his long career with Monsanto.
