Monsanto Canada is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Brian Treacy to the position of director, regulatory affairs based in Ottawa.

In this role, Dr. Treacy will be responsible for directing Monsanto Canada's regulatory and compliance teams to manage biotechnology and herbicide safety approvals. He will also work closely with Monsanto's global regulatory team to coordinate international regulatory requirements with other world areas such as China, Japan and Europe. Monsanto Canada's regulatory office is responsible for managing plant biotechnology approvals in crops such as canola, soybeans, corn, alfalfa, sugarbeets and cotton, as well as pesticide approvals for Roundup(R) brand herbicide products.

Dr. Treacy is a molecular biologist by training, with research experience in both plant and animal reproductive technologies. He is a graduate of Bishop's University's biology program (1992) where he was introduced to plant biotech by working on herbicide tolerance in canola. He later obtained his Ph.D. in molecular biology from the University of Ottawa (1997), working in Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's Eastern Cereal and Oilseed Research Centre.

Dr. Treacy replaces Bob Ingratta who retired from Monsanto Canada effective Nov. 12, 2007 after 32 years of dedicated service. Mr. Ingratta had managed Monsanto Canada's regulatory affairs office in Ottawa since 1989 and held positions in research, sales, marketing and government affairs, throughout his long career with Monsanto.
