Syngenta announced today that it agreed to take a 49%
minority stake in Sanbei Seed Co Ltd, a leading Chinese corn
seeds company headquartered in Longhua, Hebei Province. The
transaction is subject to the required approvals from the
Chinese authorities. Further details of the transaction have not
been disclosed.
“Sanbei is an excellent partner for Syngenta to jointly develop
innovative corn seed products to meet the growing demand in
China for high-quality, high-yielding corn, which is driven by
changing agronomic trends and shifting food patterns”, said
Michael Mack, Chief Operating Officer Seeds at Syngenta. “The
company has strong commercial operations and an attractive
product portfolio. Together with Syngenta's expertise in corn
breeding this will result in improved and broader product
availability for Chinese growers.”
Established in 1998, Sanbei is one of the larger high-value
corn seeds companies in China. More than 90% of Sanbei’s sales
are generated by corn seeds. In 2006, the company reported sales
of approximately $30 million. Sanbei has around 500 employees.
Syngenta is a world-leading agribusiness committed to
sustainable agriculture through innovative research and
technology. The company is a leader in crop protection, and
ranks third in the high-value commercial seeds market. Sales in
2006 were approximately $8.1 billion. Syngenta employs around
19,500 people in over 90 countries. Syngenta is listed on the
Swiss stock exchange (SYNN) and in New York (SYT).

Syngenta hat heute den Erwerb einer Minderheitsbeteiligung in
Höhe von 49 Prozent an Sanbei Seed Co Ltd, einem führenden
chinesischen Anbieter von Maissaatgut mit Sitz in Longhua
(Provinz Hebei), bekannt gegeben. Die Transaktion unterliegt den
erforderlichen Genehmigungen durch die chinesischen Behörden.
Weitere Einzelheiten wurden nicht veröffentlicht.
„Sanbei ist ein hervorragender Partner für Syngenta, um
gemeinsam innovative Maissaatgutprodukte zu entwickeln und damit
die steigende Nachfrage nach hochwertigem, ertragreichem Mais in
China zu befriedigen, die durch neue landwirtschaftliche Trends
und veränderte Ernährungsgewohnheiten angetrieben wird“, sagte

von Saatgutsorten für chinesische Züchter verbessern und

Sanbei wurde 1998 gegründet und ist heute einer der grösseren
Anbieter von hochwertigem Maissaatgut in China. Mehr als 90 %
des Umsatzes von Sanbei entfallen auf Maissaatgut. 2006 wies das
Unternehmen einen Umsatz von annähernd USD 30 Millionen aus.
Sanbei beschäftigt rund 500 Mitarbeiter.

Syngenta a annoncé aujourd’hui son accord pour une prise de
participation minoritaire de 49 % dans Sanbei Seed Co Ltd,
producteur chinois de semences de maïs de tout premier rang. Le
siège de cette société est implanté à Longhua dans la Province
Hebei. La transaction doit encore recevoir les approbations
requises de la part des autorités chinoises. Aucun autre détail
n’a été dévoilé.

perspective du développement commun de produits novateurs dans
le domaine des semences de maïs. L’objectif est de répondre à la
demande croissante de la Chine en maïs de bonne qualité à haut
rendement, demande engendrée par le changement des tendances
agronomiques et l’évolution des modes d’alimentation», déclare
Michael Mack, Chief Operating Officer Seeds de Syngenta.
«L’entreprise dispose d’une puissante structure d’exploitation
et d’un portefeuille de produits attractif. Associés aux
connaissances de Syngenta dans l'obtention de nouvelles variétés

disponibilité des produits aux agriculteurs chinois.»
Fondée en 1998, Sanbei est l’un des plus grands producteurs
de semences de maïs à haute valeur ajoutée de Chine. Plus de 90
% de ses ventes sont générés par les semences de maïs. En 2006,
l’entreprise affichait un chiffre d'affaires de quelque 30
millions de dollars. Sanbei emploie environ 500 personnes. |
