Report Highlights

The Philippine Bureau of Plant Industry recently approved Syngenta's Corn MIR604 making it the 26th Transformation Event approved for food, feed and/or processing in the Philippines.

The Philippine Bureau of Plant Industry recently approved for direct use as food and feed Syngenta’s Transformation Event (TE) Corn MIR604. The latter contains modified Cry3A from Baxcillus thuringiensis subsp. tenebriones which confers resistance to corn rootworm. Corn MIR604 has obtained similar approvals in the U.S., South Korea, Australia and New Zealand.

This brings to a total 26 TEs approved for direct use as food, feed or propagation under the current biotechnology regulations provided for under the Department of Agriculture’s Administrative Order No. 8.
