Syngenta Crop
Protection announced today the brand name for a new
herbicide specifically designed to improve glyphosate-tolerant
(GT) corn production. The new brand, Halex™ GT, will provide a
more agronomic and higher-yielding alternative to other
post-emergence GT herbicide programs, while maintaining the
convenience growers expect from a one-pass, post-emergence
glyphosate program.
Halex GT will be included in university and in-house trials
across the Corn Belt in 2007 offering growers, retailers,
university researchers and others an opportunity to compare this
treatment with other weed control programs. Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) registration for Halex GT is expected in
time for a full commercial launch in 2008.
“The name Halex was chosen because growers associated it with
“Halley’s Comet” and “halo,” said Pat Steiner, Halex GT brand
manager. “Both of these terms bring to mind connotations of
“light,” which should be maximized, along with moisture and
other nutrients, to protect a corn plant’s yield potential. The
“GT” extension emphasizes the fact that Halex GT was designed
especially to meet the needs of GT corn producers – convenience
and performance.”
Halex GT is powered by mesotrione, the foundation of Callisto
Plant Technology™, making it the newest addition to the
Callisto® family of brands that also includes top-performing
corn herbicides Lumax®, Lexar® and Camix®. Mesotrione has
redefined the standard in broadleaf weed control and crop
safety.
Halex GT provides superior control of emerged weeds and residual
activity of the toughest broadleaf weeds and grasses in corn,
including ragweeds, waterhemp, lambsquarters and pigweeds. One
early post-emergence application of Halex GT will protect yield
through crop canopy. With multiple modes of action, Halex GT is
a Resistance Fighter™ brand, providing residual control of weed
biotypes tolerant or resistant to ALS, triazine and glyphosate
herbicides.
