Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc. is adding 20 new soybean
varieties to its lineup for 2007. These new Pioneer® brand
soybean varieties offer growers protection against yield-robbing
pests such as soybean cyst nematode (SCN), Phytophthora root
rot, sudden death syndrome (SDS) and brown stem rot (BSR).
“We continue to raise the bar on
all of the agronomic traits,” says Don Schafer, Pioneer senior
product line manager – soybeans. “A significant number of the
new Pioneer varieties offer both Phytophthora and SCN
resistance.”
The new varieties offer yield plus
agronomic stability and pest resistance in one package.
Nineteen of the new Pioneer
soybean varieties contain the Roundup Ready® gene and offer
impressive performance and yield protection.
New Pioneer variety 91M61 offers a
combination of SCN resistance and Rps1k and Rps 6 Phytophthora
resistance. In addition, this product is highly suitable for
soils prone to iron chlorosis. This variety also has been found
to be high-yielding in fields without SCN.
Early-Group II variety 92M02
offers Rps1k Phytophthora resistance, high yield and harvest
standability. This variety is broadly adapted and gives
additional strength to the Pioneer offering in this maturity
group.
Another variety offering a strong
agronomic package is 92M33. This variety features SCN resistance
and has yielded well in fields with or without SCN. This variety
should not be used on soils where iron chlorosis is an issue.
New Pioneer variety 92M75 is
unique from most other SCN-resistant varieties in that it uses
Peking as the source of SCN resistance. It controls SCN races 1,
3 and 5.
“More Midwest growers now have
access to Peking as well the PI 88788 source – which has been
the predominate source of resistance in most Midwest varieties,”
notes Schafer. “Pioneer is the only company offering elite
high-yielding varieties with Peking resistance. 92M75 provides
soybean growers with another tool in their battle against SCN.
Plant it in fields where varieties with PI 88788 as the SCN
source have begun to provide less-than-adequate SCN protection.”
A combination of SCN and Rps1k
Phytophthora resistance is available in variety 93M13.
“93M13 is a nice companion product
to 93M11 in western Iowa and Nebraska,” says Schafer. “It offers
strong agronomics and can stand up to the hilly terrain and
drought conditions found in those areas.”
A variety offering excellent BSR
resistance is 93M82. This late-Group III variety features Rps1k
Phytophthora resistance and SCN resistance. This product will
stand out against others in this maturity group because of its
great performance potential in drought soils and tough
conditions.
Featuring very good resistance to
BSR and SDS, along with Rps1k Phytophthora and SCN resistance,
is Pioneer variety 93M95. This variety is broadly adapted across
the late-Group III maturity. This variety displays
taller-than-average plant height and good standability.
Variety 97M50 is an excellent fit
for the needs of growers in the Southeast. With SCN resistance,
97M50 offers great agronomics and high yield potential.
