Every year, entomologists with the Illinois Insect Management Research Program in the Department of Crop Sciences conduct numerous insect management research trials in Illinois. Ron Estes, the coordinator for the program, works with Mike Gray, me, graduate students, and seasonal employees to plan and establish the trials and to obtain results through numerous evaluations. All of these efforts are summarized in reports sent to cooperating sponsors of the research and ultimately made available to the public. In 2004, we created the title on Target for annual summaries of field crop insect management trials conducted by entomologists in the Department of Crop Sciences. The 2004 and 2005 editions of on Target are now available on the on Target web site. You will need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the files, and we provide a link to Adobe's Web site if you do not have the Reader.

If you are interested in learning about our results regarding control of corn rootworms, Japanese beetle grubs, soybean aphids, twospotted spider mites, or corn earworms in 2005, check out the 2005 edition of on Target. The 2004 on Target also has information about control of black cutworms and bean leaf beetles. In both editions, we include live links to the Web sites of supporting organizations and appropriate insect fact sheets.

We hope you find the information in on Target useful. Please let us know if you have suggestions for improvement or inclusion of additional information. In the meantime, enjoy reading the article of interest to you.--Kevin Steffey
