The U.S. Department of
Agriculture’s National
Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) now offers a Rich
Site Summary (RSS) feed to alert subscribers about the release
of new statistical reports. The new “Today’s Reports” feed is
the companion to NASS’s very successful “News and Events” feed
launched in November 2004.
On the Web, RSS feeds typically provide headlines, summaries and
links to full-text articles at no charge. When new content is
posted on-line, these feeds automatically alert readers when
content of interest appears on their favorite Web sites. This
provides readers with the most convenient access to the latest
information without having to visit a specific Web site to
search for new articles and features.
RSS feeds have become a popular electronic source for sharing
news and up-to-date information with the public. NASS created
the new “Today’s Reports” feed in response to input from its
customers around the country. The agency will continue exploring
new RSS dissemination avenues in the future based on continued
feedback from its data users.
