Syngenta announced today an agreement with International Seed Holdings L.P. to acquire Emergent Genetics Vegetable A/S (EGV) based in Odense, Denmark. EGV is an established vegetable seed company specialized in breeding and marketing of selected vegetables crops.

EGV focuses primarily on spinach, cucumber, cabbage and cauliflower. Its products are sold internationally under three well-known brands - “Daehnfeldt™”, “Ohlsens Enke™” and “Hurst™”. For the fiscal year ended in September 2005, EGV reported sales of DKK 100m ($17m). The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

“This acquisition further strengthens our global germplasm pool and supports our leadership position in vegetable seeds,” said André Goig, Global Head of Vegetables Seeds for Syngenta.

“We value highly the continuity of the management team and look forward to working with them to enhance the product and service offer for the customers.”

Emergent Genetics Vegetable A/S announced today an agreement for acquisition by Syngenta.  EGV is currently owned by International Seed Holdings L.P. The Company is a well-known Vegetable seed company specialized in breeding and marketing of selected vegetable crops.

EGV focuses primarily on spinach, cucumber, cabbage, cauliflower and herbs. It markets its products under three well-known historical brands “Daehnfeldt”, “Ohlsens Enke” and “Hurst” in Europe, North America and also in Africa, India and China.

Sam Dryden, board member of International Seed Holdings and EGV commented: “We are pleased to have found in Syngenta a global company with strong roots in seeds and strength in genomics that can build on the long vegetable seeds history of Daehnfeldt. Our products complement Syngenta’s focus on quality and nutrition and we are convinced that this acquisition will be to the benefit of both organizations.

Flemming Holst Pedersen, Managing Director of Emergent Genetics Vegetable A/S, added “This is a great opportunity for EGV. We are proud to become part of the Syngenta group and I am sure the two companies will supplement each other very well.”

The transaction is expected to close after receiving customary regulatory approvals.

Syngenta hat heute den Abschluss einer Vereinbarung mit International Seed Holdings L.P. über den Erwerb der Emergent Genetics Vegetable A/S (EGV) mit Sitz in Odense, Dänemark, bekanntgegeben. EGV ist ein etablierter Anbieter von Gemüsesaatgut und auf die Züchtung und Vermarktung ausgewählter Gemüsekulturen spezialisiert.

EGV konzentriert sich vorwiegend auf Spinat, Gurken, Kohl und Blumenkohl. Die Produkte werden international unter den drei bekannten Marken Daehnfeldt™, Ohlsens Enke™ und Hurst™ vertrieben. Für das im September 2005 abgelaufene Geschäftsjahr meldete EGV einen Umsatz von 100 Millionen DKK (17 Millionen USD). Die finanziellen Bedingungen der Vereinbarung wurden nicht bekannt gegeben.

EGV est particulièrement actif dans les cultures d’épinard, de concombre, de chou et de choufleur. Ses produits sont vendus dans le monde entier sous trois marques notoires: «Daehnfeldt™», «Ohlsens Enke™» et «Hurst™». Pour l’exercice fiscal clôturé fin septembre 2005, EGV a annoncé un chiffre d’affaires d’un montant de DKK 100 millions (USD 17 millions). Les détails financiers de la transaction n’ont pas été divulgués.
