Report Highlights
On March 9, 2006, the
European Commission released a report on coexistence, the
concurrent cultivation of conventional, organic and biotech
crops in the European Union. It discusses coexistence
legislation at the EU level and the Member State level.
Overall, the Commission concludes that the development of a
harmonized approach to supranational coexistence legislation
is not necessary at the present time, largely because the EU
has limited experience with biotech crops. The Commission
will hold a conference on coexistence in Vienna, Austria on
April 5-6.
