American Vanguard and Pioneer Hi-Bred Seeds join forces for SmartBox® marketing offer
Newport Beach, California and De Moines, Iowa
August 26, 2005

American Vanguard Corporation (AMEX: AVD) today announced that its subsidiary, AMVAC Chemical Corporation, has partnered with Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc., a subsidiary of E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company (DuPont), for a marketing program for AMVAC's SmartBox® closed-handling system.

Pioneer® brand seed customers now have the opportunity to qualify for a discount on the purchase of a SmartBox system.

The SmartBox closed-handling system uses an in-cab computerized controller for precise application of granular corn rootworm insecticides, as well as monitoring and record-keeping. Applicator exposure is virtually eliminated, since insecticides are pre-packaged in 50-lb. returnable containers that are keyed to open only when lock mounted into the SmartBox applicator. This eliminates the need to open, pour and dispose of bags and reduces the risk of skin contact and inhalation. This low-maintenance system, which now includes a GPS-compatible controller, can be fitted on all major planter brands.

Ted Ramirez, AMVAC's Director of marketing, noted, "We are pleased that Pioneer recognizes the value of our SmartBox technology and product offerings and introduced this discount program for Pioneer seed consumers. We see it as a further endorsement of our SmartBox technology."

Barry Brown, Pioneer Marketing Manager, added, "We want to offer growers a range of treatment options for pest problems. The SmartBox system provides a granular insecticide solution with good efficacy, precise application and applicator safety. The computerized controller also can document insecticide applications on refuge acres."
