Growers planting Pioneer(R) brand corn hybrids won 24 of 27 categories in the 2004 National Corn Growers
Association (NCGA) Corn Yield Contest announced today.

Farmers growing Pioneer hybrids finished in first-place in all nine national classes.  Among second-place winners, those growing Pioneer hybrids won eight categories and, among third-place winners, growers planting Pioneer hybrids won seven of nine categories.

The highest yield winner within the contest was David K. Hula of Charles City, Va., who planted Pioneer brand 33M54 with a yield of 339.48 bushels per acre.  He won in the national A No Till/Strip Till, Non-Irrigated category. This is the second year in a row that Hula has placed first among all contestants in the NCGA contest with a Pioneer hybrid.

The second highest yield in the NCGA contest was won by Francis Childs, Manchester, Iowa, who planted Pioneer hybrid 35Y65 with a yield of 331.95 bushels per acre in the AA Non-Irrigated class.  The third highest yield was posted by E&H Farms of Dixon, Calif., with Pioneer hybrid 31N27, yielding 325.73 bushels per acre in the Irrigated class.

"Each year, we're excited to see the continued success growers have with Pioneer products in this contest," says Bill Fleet, Pioneer vice president for North American sales.  "We're especially impressed with the high yields our customers have this year with Pioneer hybrids.  We at Pioneer are honored that, year after year, the overwhelming majority of corn growers who win in the NCGA Corn Yield Contest choose Pioneer corn hybrids as their entries.

That says a lot about the value Pioneer hybrids bring to the bottom line of all growers."

The NCGA Corn Yield Contest is an annual national competition among corn growers with the goal of producing the highest yields.  Growers compete in nine corn production classes, including non-irrigated (A and AA), no-till/strip-till non-irrigated (A and AA), no-till/strip-till irrigated, ridge-till non-irrigated (A and AA), ridge-till irrigated and irrigated classes.
