Pioneer Hi-Bred International,
Inc., is introducing 19 new Pioneer® brand soybean varieties
with top-end yield potential and key defensive traits. Leading
the way are varieties with resistance to soybean cyst nematode
(SCN) and Phytophthora root rot as well as tolerance to sudden
death syndrome (SDS), iron chlorosis, brown stem rot (BSR) and
white mold.
"The key to these new
generation soybeans are the Pioneer genetics that deliver
exceptional yields," says Marv Wilson, soybean marketing
director for Pioneer. "Our 'M-series' varieties offer an
unprecedented yield advantage over the competition with
defensive trait packages that producers require."
All but one of the new
varieties for 2005 contains the Roundup Ready¹ gene. The new
varieties range in maturity from Group 000 for Manitoba to Group
VI for southern U.S. growers.
Pioneer variety 90M60, for
example, is a mid-Group 0 variety with excellent tolerance to
iron chlorosis. The variety shows an outstanding yield advantage
of nearly 3 bushels an acre in on-farm comparisons across North
Dakota and Minnesota.
Pioneer variety 91M51 is a
mid-Group I maturity soybean with good tolerance to iron
chlorosis, white mold and resistance to Phytophthora root rot.
The multi-race Phytophthora resistant Pioneer variety 92M32 is
an early mid-Group II variety with exceptional BSR resistance
and outstanding frogeye leaf spot tolerance. 92M32 out-yielded
competitive varieties on average this fall by 1.7 bushels per
acre.
Pioneer variety 92M91 has
excellent yield potential with superb standability and field
emergence. This late Group II variety has a multi-race
Phytophthora resistance, excellent BSR and good white mold
tolerance. 92M91 has also out-yielded competitive varieties by
an average of 4.4 bushels an acre in over 450 on-farm weigh
comparisons across the Midwest.
An early Group III maturity
soybean, Pioneer variety 93M10 has SCN resistance as well as
very good SDS tolerance. 93M10 has won more than 70 percent of
300 on-farm weigh comparisons, out-yielding the competition by 3
bushels an acre across the Midwest.
New Pioneer variety 93M11
out-yielded the competition by an average of more than 4.5
bushels an acre in over 550 farm comparisons. Also containing
multi-race Phytophthora resistance, 93M11 is an early Group III
variety with very good SDS tolerance. It also has outstanding
field emergence and standability and is well adapted to
reduced-tillage practices.
Pioneer variety 93M92, a late
Group III variety, is Phytophthora resistant and has very good
SDS tolerance. This variety has also out-yielded competitive
varieties by an average of 3.5 bushels an acre across on-farm
comparisons in Ohio and Indiana.
A late Group IV variety,
Pioneer variety 94M90 is another with outstanding yield
potential. 94M90 has excellent resistance to SCN race 3 with
very good SDS and Phytophthora field tolerance. This strong
emerging and standing variety has good tolerance to frogeye leaf
spot as well.
