European Commission proposes to maintain levels of seed subsidies for 2004/05

Report Highlights:

The European Commission has proposed a Regulation to maintain levels of support to the seed sector at their current levels for 2004/2005, providing €109m worth of subsidies. This proposal, if adopted, would cover the interim period before the seed payments are integrated into the decoupled Single Farm Payment, part of the recent CAP Reform, starting in 2005. The proposals must now be approved by the European Parliament and European Council. The Commission proposals to set aid rates for the seeds sector are needed in the interim period before the seeds common market organization reform enters into force in 2005.
