Greater harvestability, improved
pest resistance and higher yield potential are the hallmarks of
the four new sorghum hybrids now available from
Pioneer Hi-Bred International,
Inc. The newly released hybrids are red grain sorghums with
a wide area of adaptability.
"As the leading sorghum genetics company, customers look to us
to provide hybrids that add value to their operation through
better agronomics," says Clive Holland, Pioneer sorghum product
marketing manager. "We are excited to be offering these four
hybrids to our North American customers."
One of the select new hybrids is Pioneer® brand 83G88. This
bright red hybrid is highly resistant to downy mildew and head
smut with the added benefit of anthracnose resistance. It's also
resistant to biotype E greenbug. It should be very popular with
growers in south Texas and the southeastern states, according to
Holland.
Pioneer hybrid 83G15 also is well suited for the southern
growing region. With its yield potential and excellent
standability, it will be a favored choice over Pioneer mainstays
in that area. High yield potential makes hybrid 84G50 special,
along with high resistance to downy mildew and head smut. This
new hybrid promises to be widely adaptable throughout the
sorghum growing regions.
Another potential workhorse for the main sorghum growing areas
is 85G01. Exceptional grain yield with rapid dry-down and very
good stalks make this hybrid a top performer in areas from south
Texas to the High Plains, as well as eastern Kansas and the
southeastern states.
In addition to the 2003 class of red hybrids, Pioneer is
introducing two short-maturity, white grain hybrids, Pioneer
brand 88Y20 and Pioneer brand 88Y41. These are adaptable to
areas in the United States with shorter growing seasons.

brand sorghum hybrids from their local Pioneer sales
