Winners of eight national honors and 68 state contest awards

Growers planting Pioneer® brand sorghum hybrids recently won 60 percent of all national and state awards presented in the 2002 National Grain Sorghum Producers' (NGSP) Yield and Management Contest.

Farmers planting Pioneer sorghum hybrids won eight national honors, including two of six first-place awards, three of six second-place awards and three of five third-place awards. Growers also won 76 of 125 state categories with Pioneer hybrids.

"We’re pleased to see Pioneer brand hybrids compete successfully in the NGSP contest for our customers," says Clive Holland, Pioneer sorghum product marketing manager. "We want to congratulate the Pioneer producers and others who placed in the contest and complement them on
their diligent management practices that led to their success."

The NGSP Yield and Management Contest is an annual competition among sorghum producers with the goal of producing the highest yields. Growers compete within a broad range of sorghum production classes, including conventional-till irrigated, conventional-till non-irrigated, mulch-till non-irrigated, no-till non-irrigated, reduced-till irrigated and national food-grade classes.

National and state winners will be recognized at the 2003 Sorghum Industry Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in mid-February.
