Sheldahl, Iowa
January 30, 2002
Today,
Pioneer Hi-Bred International,
Inc. will recognize Ruth Klonglan, as 2001 Employee
Volunteer of the Year for Pioneer. Klonglan was also honored as
one of the DuPont 2001 Public Affairs Volunteer Recognition
Award winners.
She has worked for Pioneer for the past four years and is
currently a research assistant at the Livestock Nutrition Center
in Sheldahl, Iowa. In her position, Klonglan provides support
for forage sample nutritional profiles as well as assistance
with forage and grain digestion studies.
The 83 year-old has twice survived cancer. She has been widowed
twice. Yet, she still finds the time and energy to give to
others.
Klonglan regularly visits the Madrid Nursing Home and the Mill
Pond Nursing Home, sharing handmade flower and flower
arrangements with residents. She also decorates their rooms with
live plants that she maintains. And, she volunteers at her
church where she serves lunches and started a clothing drive
that was so successful the monthly overflow goes to Bethel
Mission.
"Ruth is a shining example of Pioneer's most valuable resource
-- our people. Not only is she committed to the company but also
to her community. Ruth gives generously of her time and is an
inspiration to all of us through her lifelong giving and
volunteerism," commended Pioneer President Rick McConnell.
As Pioneer's 2001 Volunteer of the Year, Klonglan will receive a
recognition plaque and a $50 Pioneer Country Store gift
certificate. Additionally, the company will donate $1,000 to a
charity of her choice.
