Turfgrass Field Day set for July 21 in Lubbock, Texas

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and Texas Tech University’s department of plant and soil science will conduct a Turfgrass Field Day on July 21 at Lubbock.
The collaborative effort will start with registration at 7 a.m., followed by the program from 8 a.m. to noon at the Texas Tech Quaker Research Farm located at 200 N. Quaker Ave.
“The entire field day and the lunch that follows are free and open to the public,” said Robert Scott, AgriLife Extension agent in Lubbock County.
“The program is tailored for both the professional golf course, athletic field and commercial landscape professional as well as for the homeowner seeking to maintain a top quality lawn under dry conditions. With the wide array of topics offered, there will be something for just about anybody interested in establishing and maintaining healthy turfgrass in West Texas.”
Golf course and athletic turf topics will include:
- Wetting agent demonstration.
- Plant growth regulators.
- Pre-emerge herbicide.
- Sodium removal from soils.
- Irrigation audit demonstration.
- Carbon sequestration.
The commercial and residential lawn care topics will include:
- Buffalograss herbicide tolerance.
- Native Plants for Landscape.
- An introduction to drip irrigation for turf.
- Calibration demonstration.
- Irrigation audit demonstration.
- General management practices.
