The 2014 Turfgrass Ecology Workshop and Short Course will be held Jan. 27-31 at the Texas A&M University Memorial Student Center, 275 Joe Routt Blvd. in College Station.
“This is an intensive five-day educational opportunity for anyone interested in the fundamentals of turfgrass physiology and management,” said Dr. Casey Reynolds, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service turfgrass specialist.
The workshop was designed for professional turfgrass managers and others in the green industry who have a desire to learn how to properly manage turfgrasses with respect to growth, fertility, pest control, water use and water quality, Reynolds said.
“We have set up this short course so that it will be beneficial to those whose experiences range from beginners to experienced managers,” he said.
Attendees will hear discussions on the fundamentals of proper turfgrass selection, growth and maintenance, and the latest up-to-date information from Texas A&M University faculty.
The registration fee is $495 and includes learning materials, a continuing education certificate, Texas Department of Agriculture pesticide credits, sprayer calibration reference cards, athletic field and golf course education tours, and on-site refreshments.
Daily program topics will be:
- Jan 27 – Turfgrass Physiology, Growth, and Identification.
- Jan. 28 – Soil and Water Sciences.
- Jan. 29 – Calculations and Calibrations.
- Jan. 30 – Pest Control: Weeds, Diseases, and Insects
- Jan. 31 – Review and Exam.
