Educational tools for seed treaty actors

Geneva, Switzerland
May 12, 2011

The international seed treaty has launched a capacity-building campaign in the form of educational modules to help a range of stakeholders better understand the treaty and its implementation.

The International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture entered into force in 2004.

The online educational sessions target policymakers, civil servants, gene bank staff, plant breeders, farmers’ organisations, civil society, academia, media, and prospective donors. The full series contains five sessions: introduction to the international treaty, conservation and sustainable use, farmers’ rights, the multilateral system of access and benefit-sharing, and the funding strategy.

The first edition of the educational modules was launched in March 2011, during the fourth session of the Governing Body of the International Treaty.
