On Tuesday October 19, vegetable breeder Rijk Zwaan organized a special event to launch Sensational Flavours in Italy. Entering such an important new target market and having been extended with two more special varieties, this Rijk Zwaan product line is clearly flourishing.
Sensational Flavours consists of vegetable varieties that distinguish themselves by giving a special taste experience. Hence, after successful introductions in several other countries, the official launch of this product line in Italy was the logical next step. Bauke van Lenteren, Flavour Manager, explains: “Italy is world famous for its tasty dishes. Especially for the Italian market, we selected ten varieties which perfectly suit the local cuisine. As well as from supermarkets, we are also expecting a lot of interest from food service companies and restaurants. For them, Sensational Flavours is a good opportunity to appeal to Italian consumers’ refined sense of taste.”
Newcomers
To celebrate the official launch in Italy, Rijk Zwaan organized a special event in Milan for its Italian chain partners. During this gathering, top chef Sergio Ferrarini prepared an extensive lunch using the varieties of Sensational Flavours. Van Lenteren: “This enabled our guests to experience for themselves why these varieties have earned a place in Sensational Flavours. They were, for example, very impressed by the round, violet aubergine, Sabelle RZ, which is a typical Italian product.” Another newcomer in Sensational Flavours is tomato Rugantino RZ, the first ‘coeur de boeuf’ variety of Rijk Zwaan. “In addition to Italy, this product will also be introduced in the other countries where we have launched Sensational Flavours. With its special visual and taste characteristics, we expect international interest in this variety.”
Further extension
So far, the Sensational Flavours product line has been introduced in the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, China and Italy. According to Van Lenteren, the market is already showing a lot of interest in the products of the Sensational Flavours range. “The higher segment, in particular, is searching for products with which they can distinguish themselves. With Sensational Flavours, we make differentiation a lot easier for our customers. We will therefore continue to extend this product line by adding more new varieties, as well as launching it in new markets. Our next focus will be North America.”
‘Sensational Flavours’ van Rijk Zwaan blijven groeien
Op dinsdag 19 oktober heeft groenteveredelingsbedrijf Rijk Zwaan een speciaal evenement georganiseerd voor de lancering van Sensational Flavours in Italië. Met een belangrijke nieuwe afzetmarkt en uitbreiding met nog eens 2 bijzondere rassen, blijft deze productlijn volop in ontwikkeling.
Sensational Flavours bestaat uit rassen die zich onderscheiden door een bijzondere smaakbeleving. Na succesvolle introducties in diverse andere landen, is de lancering in Italië een logische volgende stap. Flavour Manager Bauke van Lenteren legt uit: “Italië is befaamd om zijn bijzondere keuken. Speciaal voor de Italiaanse markt hebben we daarom 10 rassen uitgezocht, die hier perfect bij passen. We verwachten dan ook veel interesse van supermarkten, maar ook van food service bedrijven en restaurants. Voor hen vormen de producten uit Sensational Flavours een uitstekende mogelijkheid om in te spelen op de verfijnde smaak van de Italiaanse consument.
Nieuwkomers
Ter gelegenheid van de officiële lancering, organiseerde Rijk Zwaan in Milaan een bijzonder evenement voor haar Italiaanse ketenpartners. Tijdens deze bijeenkomst bereidde topkok Sergio Ferrarini een uitgebreide lunch met de producten uit Sensational Flavours. Van Lenteren: “Hierdoor konden onze gasten zelf ervaren waar de rassen hun plek in Sensational Flavours aan hebben verdiend. Ze waren bijvoorbeeld dol op de ronde aubergine Sabelle RZ, een typisch Italiaans product”, vertelt Van Lenteren. Een andere nieuwkomer in Sensational Flavours is de tomaat Rugantino RZ, het eerste ‘coeur de boeuf’ type van Rijk Zwaan. “Naast Italië, wordt dit product ook geïntroduceerd in andere landen waar Sensational Flavours is gelanceerd. Met zijn speciale uiterlijke kenmerken en bijzondere smaak, verwachten we grote, internationale interesse voor dit ras.”
Uitbreiding
Tot nu toe is productlijn Sensational Flavours gelanceerd in Nederland, Duitsland, Spanje, China en Italië. Volgens Van Lenteren toont de markt al veel interesse in de producten van Sensational Flavours. “Vooral het hogere segment van de markt zoekt naar producten om zichzelf mee te onderscheiden. Met Sensational Flavours geven we ze daarvoor de instrumenten in handen. We zullen de productlijn dan ook verder blijven uitbreiden. Met nieuwe rassen, maar ook in steeds meer landen. Onze focus ligt nu in eerste instantie op Noord-Amerika.”
