Identity Preservation/Use of Certified Seed
The CSTA have developed a Variety Name Preservation Working Group whose focus is to seek ways to add value through the grain handling and processing system through the use of Certified Seed. This group has assembled a communications package on these advantages all the way down the food chain and shared it with numerous industry contacts.

A briefing note, prepared by legal sources was circulated to CSTA members to offer insights into mechanisms whereby members could protect the value of variety names beyond the point of seed sale.

Proper use of a variety name to sell Certified seed and the crops produced from Certified seed enhances the value of the variety name, giving an economic advantage to all breeders, growers and farmers of Certified seed and food processors using them.
