president of production for Seminis, has announced
his retirement effective December 31.
During his 31-year career at Seminis and predecessor company Asgrow, Slack earned
worldwide
recognition for his contributions in vegetable seed production, processing, quality and
distribution.
When Asgrow Seed Company merged with Petoseed to form Seminis, in 1994, Slack played a key
role in the integration and consolidation of operations for the new company. Following his
retirement from Seminis, Slack will continue to act in an advisory position to the company
in the area of production and operations.
"Larry has made an incredible contribution to Seminis in building our
industry-leading production and processing capacity,'' said Alfonso Romo Garza, chairman
and CEO. "He has played a critical role in linking production and processing, quality
and sales.''
Slack's successor will be named separately, according to Seminis.
Seminis is the largest developer, producer and marketer of vegetable seeds in the world.
The company uses seeds as the delivery vehicle for innovative agricultural technology. Its
products are designed to reduce the need for agricultural chemicals, increase crop yield,
reduce spoilage, offer longer shelf life, create better tasting foods and foods with
better nutritional content. Seminis has established a worldwide presence and global
distribution network that spans 120 countries with 70 research stations in 19 countries
and production sites in 32 countries. Seminis is a majority
owned subsidiary of Savia, a Mexico-based conglomerate with leadership positions in
financial services, packaging and fresh foods.
