Alfonso Romo Garza has assumed the additional role of chief executive officer (CEO) at Seminis, the world's largest vegetable and fruit seed
company.
In his capacity as CEO, Mr. Romo will play a larger role is setting operational strategy
and vision for Seminis as it seeks to enhance profitability by expanding the global
vegetable and fruit market and capture value for the benefit that its products create
throughout the produce production and distribution
chain.
Mr. Romo, architect in the formation of Seminis, has served as chairman of the board of
directors since 1995, as well as chairman and CEO of Seminis parent company, Savia since
1988, and chairman and CEO of other Savia subsidiaries in the financial services and
packaging industries.
Seminis is the largest developer, producer and marketer of vegetable seeds in the world.
The company uses seeds as the delivery vehicle for innovative agricultural technology. Its
products are designed to reduce the need for agricultural chemicals, increase crop yield,
reduce spoilage, offer longer shelf life, create better tasting foods and foods with
better nutritional content. Seminis has established a worldwide presence and global
distribution network that spans 120 countries with 70 research stations in 19 countries
and production sites in 32 countries. Seminis is a majority
owned subsidiary of Savia, a Mexico-based conglomerate with leadership positions in
financial services, packaging and fresh foods.
