With the ever increasing importance of technology in the
Western Corn Belt, The J.C. Robinson Seed Co. has launched a
conversion program with Golden Harvest products aimed at
technologies suited for Western Corn Belt conditions. "The
Golden Harvest incorporation program has been very productive
and successful, as can be seen by the amount of technology
hybrids being sold and by the quality of the conversions," Dr.
Calvin Treat, technology products manager said. "With the size
the Golden Harvest incorporation program has achieved since its
beginning in 1995, it was time to launch a second program in the
Western Corn Belt while maintaining an active role in the Golden
Harvest incorporation program."
The current traits incorporated into Golden Harvest products
include YieldGard® Insect Protected Bt, Roundup Ready®,
Clearfield* and stacked combinations. "The addition of our
program to the Golden Harvest program allows us the flexibility
to react quicker to changing technology markets and to ensure
that the most advanced elite inbred lines are converted to the
appropriate technologies," Treat said.
Treat joined the Company in 1990 as a corn breeder and
transitioned into his new position as Technology Products
Manager in 2000. This August Dr. Steve Richie joined the Company
as Technology Incorporation Manager to manage the new conversion
program. "Transgenic crops continue to prove their worth to
farmers and are therefore, an important part of any successful
seed company’s product lineup," Richie said. "It’s exciting to
be working in this cutting edge area that, despite some of the
recent political set-backs, holds huge potential and continues
to grow in importance in world-wide agriculture."
In addition to Treat and Richie, an assistant will soon be
joining the program and will be permanently located in Hawaii to
manage the day to day operations.
"Our goal is to continue to deliver the newest technologies
of value to our customers in the most elite germplasm in a
timely manner to ensure we fulfill our commitment to help our
customers to be profitable," Treat said.
