Bloomington, Illinois
April 22, 1999

Golden Harvest has  introduced 61 corn hybrids that contain technology traits which  have been approved for import into the European Union; including all YieldGard(R) 1 insect protected hybrids with the Bt gene, all IMI-CORN(R)2 herbicide tolerant hybrids or stacked Bt/IMI combinations. All of these Golden Harvest hybrids will be accepted at all elevators. In addition, the 1999 Golden Harvest soybean lineup offers 33 Roundup Ready varieties and seven STS(R)4 varieties. These products have been approved for import into the European Union, and should be accepted at U.S.
elevators.

The corn hybrid exceptions are three Golden Harvest hybrids containing the Roundup Ready(R)1 gene and three hybrids which contain the Liberty Link(R)3 (T14) gene*.

These products have domestic approval: H-8874RR, EX98535Bt/RR, EX98879Bt/RR, H-2404LL, H-2553LL, and H-2611LL. These products carry a tag or sticker notifying the producer that the harvested grain can only be used domestically, and approval is pending in certain markets.

Golden Harvest supports the U.S. Grains Council Public Policy position, as stated in The U.S. Grains Council Public Policy Positions, adopted July 21, 1998, Section VII: "Genetically Engineered Agricultural Products: As part of any worldwide effort to increase food production and quality, the U.S. Grains Council recognizes that genetically engineered agricultural products will serve an important role. The U.S. Grains Council:

1.1 Supports enforcement of the sanitary / phytosanitary provisions negotiated during the Uruguay Round of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, which require regulations to be risk-focused, science-based and not used as trade barriers;

1.2 Opposes any labeling of genetically engineered agricultural products except to identify physically active compounds that have proven health or safety risks;

1.3 Encourages the U.S. government to vigorously defend U.S.-approved genetically engineered agricultural products from unreasonable testing, unnecessary labeling requirements and other
non-tariff trade barriers.

1.4 Encourages the U.S. and other countries to proceed as rapidly as possible to develop appropriate standards and agreements with a goal of having and accepting equivalent standards for crops, plants and commodities entering international commerce."

The Golden Harvest brand of hybrid corn, soybeans, sorghum and alfalfa is produced and marketed by five family-owned and managed seed companies serving farmers throughout the U.S.
Corn Belt, Europe, South America and Canada. These five companies share research and marketing resources nationally, while continuing to offer the nearby service that is the heart of the
seed industry.
