Garst Seed Company announces purchase of PSA Genetics
Slater, Iowa
November 22, 1999

Garst Seed Company and PSA Genetics, LLC are pleased to announce that they have entered into an agreement in which Garst will purchase the retail marketing and distribution network of
PSA Genetics. The purchase will provide Garst with access to numerous agribusiness retail centers and farmer sales representatives in western Iowa, northeast Kansas, Nebraska and southeast South Dakota.

The current management structure of PSA will continue to run the business, and the sales force will remain independent. The PSA product line and marketing programs will be continued with limited introduction of Garst products featuring the latest technologies and gene stacked varieties.

"In today's business climate, we must continue to search for relationships and acquisitions that can have real and immediate positive results on building our business while still providing our customers with economical, high-yielding and consistent seed products," explains Col Seccombe, President and CEO of Garst Seed Company.

"This agreement will allow Garst to continue its growth and expansion within its key corn and soybean seed business," says Seccombe. "PSA customers and the PSA sales distribution network will be able to continue with the best of PSA while adding the benefits that Garst can provide because of its large research effort and its economy of scale."

Neil Quirin, CEO of PSA stated, "This agreement will allow our customers access to the newest technologies in the seed industry both from traditional genetics and biotechnology. Also people are a most important asset. We will now have a very talented Garst group available to serve our
customer base."

PSA Genetics, LLC is based in Alta, Iowa and was formed in 1997 with the merger of Coop Seed and Mellow Dent Seed.

Garst is a recognized leader in the development and production of traditional and multi-trait corn hybrids, technology-enhanced soybean varieties, grain sorghum and alfalfa. With corporate and research headquarters in Slater, Iowa, Garst is the largest member of the Advanta Group of seed companies, which ranks as one of the top five seed companies globally.
