New York, New York
November 13, 2000

Syngenta American Depository Shares ("ADSs'') began trading today on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol "SYT.'' Syngenta Ordinary Shares also commenced trading earlier this morning on the Swiss, Stockholm and London Stock Exchanges. One Syngenta ADS represents one-fifth of an Ordinary Share.

"We are very pleased to be joining the list of distinguished companies trading on the New York
Stock Exchange,'' commented Michael Pragnell, CEO of Syngenta. "Listing here, in addition to the home territories of our parent companies, is a great honor and reflects the importance of the United States to us as a major marketplace for our products in crop protection and high value commercial seeds.''

Syngenta was created following the demergers of the Novartis agribusiness and the Zeneca
agrochemicals business from Novartis and AstraZeneca, respectively, and the combination of these businesses. Syngenta AG is a leading agribusiness company, operating across all major areas of crop protection and seeds, with pro forma sales of approximately USD 7.0 billion for the year ended December 31, 1999.
