Context Network founding partner Tray Thomas is featured speaker at international genomics conference

“Creating value is not equivalent to capturing value.” That’s according to Context Network founding partner, Tray Thomas who was a featured speaker at the fourth annual international Genomics in Business conference in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The three- day meeting, held April 19-21 2009, drew an international audience of hundreds of high profile managers, entrepreneurs, leading scientists and key industry and technology investors.

Thomas said, “It was an honor to participate in this event. Technology growth in the ag sector continues to move at a rapid pace. Business leaders have come to realize that technical knowledge is available in abundance, as is information about established markets. But commercial insight is often lacking, putting many technologies, ideas and even companies at risk.”

Thomas’ presentation explored how often, the business model (or how value is captured) dictates commercial success. He said that during the conference, there was a great deal of discussion on factors that drive the creation of a sustainable value capture model. “One of the greatest challenges in the business of value capture is that the most commonly underfunded research is commercial in nature. Ultimately, the market, together with the model, determines the final value. The value capture model is important, but effective employment of strategic thought is paramount for sustained success both individually as companies, and together as an industry.”

The international conference is sponsored by KeyGene N.V., a research company with strong focus on molecular genetics and biotechnology for the plant breeding industry. A PDF version of the presentation is available HERE.
