Sustainability. It sums up what many growers strive for, and to recognize the efforts of wheat and barley growers, Syngenta announces Farming for the Future. This awards program will honor cereal growers committed to preserving their land for the next generation.“From nutrient management to soil preservation to resistance management, sustainability is a concept that cuts across many areas of a farm operation,” said Don Porter, cereals herbicide technical brand manager for Syngenta Crop Protection. “Keeping a farm sustainable is synonymous with staying in business long-term. At Syngenta, we understand the importance of these efforts, and Syngenta provides solutions to help growers achieve their goals. We want to recognize growers who are working hard to farm for the future.”

Nominate an area grower or yourself at www.farmingforthefuture.farmassist.com by Sept. 30, 2009. Inspiring submissions will be recognized in April, June and August, with bi-monthly winners receiving a $50 Cabela’s gift card.

The Farming for the Future Selection Panel, comprised of industry and university representatives, will choose regional finalists from the Northern Plains, Pacific Northwest and southern winter wheat geographies. The Grand Prize winner, selected from the regional finalists, will receive one year’s service of a crop marketing consultant. The other two finalists will each receive a $500 donation to their local FFA chapter to offset costs to attend the state or national FFA convention.

“Not only will this program recognize deserving growers, but by sharing success stories, others can learn how to apply sound management practices on their farms,” Porter added.
