.

Basel, Switzerland
October 21, 2008

Syngenta announced that it has acquired Resource Seeds, Inc. (RSI) as part of its acquisition of RSI's flower seeds parent company Goldsmith Seeds, Inc. announced earlier today. RSI has a market leading position in the California wheat and triticale markets and a strong market presence in triticale across the US.

"RSI's outstanding record as world-class breeders specifically complements Syngenta's leading North America presence in cereals," said Robert Bruns, Head of Syngenta North American Cereal Seeds. “We are excited at the prospect of providing a broader offering of products to our customers."

Syngenta NAFTA Cereals Seeds is headquartered in Berthoud, Colorado. RSI has been headquartered in Gilroy, California, since its 1990 inception. The company has several breeding and production facilities in California and a strong triticale testing and market support network spread across the rest of the US that Syngenta will support as part of its NAFTA R&D and business operations.

Syngenta is a world-leading agribusiness committed to sustainable agriculture through innovative research and technology. The company is a leader in crop protection, and ranks third in the high-value commercial seeds market. Sales in 2007 were approximately $9.2 billion. Syngenta employs over 21,000 people in more than 90 countries. Syngenta is listed on the Swiss stock exchange (SYNN) and in New York (SYT).
