A large majority of farmers
believe that triple stack hybrids return a 15-bushel or better
per acre advantage, according to a recent survey conducted by
Channel Bio Corp., the
parent company of Crow's Hybrids, Midwest Seed Genetics and NC+.
Seventy-four percent responded that the return was 15-20 bushels
or more.
The survey also found that 93 percent of the farmers who
responded cover at least some part of their seed investment with
crop insurance.
"The combination of those two results means farmers will receive
a double benefit with the recent approval of the federal
government's Biotech Yield Endorsement," said Randy Ramundt,
Channel's manager of marketing and communications.
Biotech Yield Endorsement (BYE) is a federal government approved
crop insurance premium reduction for insured acres planted with
75 percent of triple-stack hybrids with Monsanto technologies.
The pilot program is open to growers in Iowa, Indiana, Illinois
and Minnesota.
"Just as good drivers or non-smokers are rewarded with an
insurance discount, farmers who make the smart decision to
dedicate 75 percent of their insured unit to triple-stack
hybrids will be rewarded with reduced risk, yield advantage and
a premium discount on their crop insurance," said Ramundt.
The USDA predicts the discount will run 14 percent per acre for
the average crop insurance policy.
The survey was conducted at recent grower meetings in three Corn
Belt locations: Champaign, Illinois; Iowa City, Iowa and Omaha,
Nebraska. More than 360 farmers participated in the audience
response system survey which allowed participants to answer
questions anonymously using electronic keypads.
Channel Bio Corp. is one of the largest and fastest growing
corn and soybean companies in the United States today, with more
than 280 full-time sales representatives who work directly with
row crop farmers. The Channel brands are Crow's Hybrids of
Kentland, Indiana; Midwest Seed Genetics of Carroll, Iowa; and
NC+ Hybrids of Lincoln, Nebraska. |
