At the GRDC supported Better
Oilseeds conference in Perth, David Moore,
Monsanto Technical
Manager for Australian Oilseeds and Cotton, reported on the
first year of Roundup Ready canola growing in Victoria and New
South Wales.
He said Monsanto has developed a risk management tool to assess
paddocks sown to GM canola. Risk assessment is by a set of
guidelines outlined in Paddock Risk Assessment Management Option
Guide (PRAMOG).
"We use this risk assessment model to rate the resistance risk
of each field of potential Roundup Ready canola."
He outlined the role of Technology Service Providers, who would
act on Monsanto's behalf to collect service fees, apply PRAMOG
and conduct 'weed walks' with growers 14 to 21 days after the
last glyphosate application.
"The value of the weed walk is to assess efficacy, to identify
resistant species, changes in the range of weeds and any
survivors due to poor herbicide application and/or other
reasons. It identifies risk and steps for remedial action, which
is part of sustaining the technology for the future," Mr Moore
said. |
