Acquisitions will make Americot the second largest cotton seed company in the Southwest, third largest in the country

Americot, Inc. announced today that it has agreed to acquire the NexGen™ brand of cotton seed as well as specific Delta and Pine Land germplasm. These acquisitions will make Americot® the second largest cotton seed company in the Southwest region in market share, and the third largest in the country.

The NexGen brand and germplasm are being divested by Monsanto to address competitive concerns raised by the U.S. Department of Justice in connection with Monsanto's acquisition of Delta and Pine Land Company. The germplasm assets include the germplasm Monsanto had in its pipeline for the NexGen brand as well as certain germplasm from Delta and Pine Land.

Terry Campbell (photo), General Manager for Americot, says, "Americot supplies Southwest, Midsouth and Southeast cotton growers with quality planting seed of varieties that provide high-yield potential and excellent fiber quality with the technologies that growers want and need, including Bollgard II® and Roundup Ready® Flex.

“This acquisition of the NexGen brand of cotton seed will provide us a larger footprint in the Southwest market; it will strengthen our portfolio of high-quality germplasm available to growers in the Southwest. NexGen varieties offer High Plains growers stormproof cotton options with excellent fiber quality, high-yield potential and earliness. NexGen Roundup Ready Flex varieties are currently sold out, but there is still a good supply of Roundup Ready® varieties including NG1553R, NG2448R and NG3969R.

"Additionally, the germplasm divested from Delta and Pine Land will be used to develop new cotton products under the Americot brand for the Midsouth, Southeast and the Southwest regions. This germplasm will complement our Americot cotton portfolio that includes the widely adapted AM 1532 B2RF, which is a Bollgard II/Roundup Ready variety. We will have one of the largest germplasm bases available to which we can combine with the latest and best biotechnology traits from across the world to benefit U.S. growers. We will have the freedom to stack anybody's technology traits in future varieties. In 2008, Americot will launch two new Bollgard II with Roundup Ready Flex products and three new Roundup Ready Flex products."

The acquisition is subject to regulatory approval by the U.S. Department of Justice and is expected to close as soon as practical.

Americot, Inc. headquartered in Lubbock, Texas provides Southwest, Midsouth and Southeast cotton growers with quality planting seed of varieties that offer high yield potential and excellent fiber quality with the technologies that growers want and need.
