The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) has
signed a strategic alliance agreement with the International
Centre for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) to
formalise ongoing collaboration.
GRDC Board Chairman and Mt Barker grower, Terry Enright said the
partnership would create products to benefit Australian grain
producers and poor farmers in developing countries.
"Under the agreement, the GRDC will support joint research on
spring bread wheat improvement and chickpea breeding for drought
tolerance and disease resistance," he said.
Mr Enright and ICARDA Director General, Dr Mahmoud Solh signed
the agreement during Mr Enright's May visit to Syria, where he
also met researchers to discuss further collaboration.
