Increase productivity with Garst Seed Company’s eight new corn hybrids that boast stacked trait technology - New hybrids protect from corn borer and rootworm while offering herbicide flexibility

Slater, Iowa
February 22, 2007

Garst Seed Company is excited to announce eight new corn hybrids for the 2007 planting season that feature an Agrisure™ multiple stack corn trait that provides season-long protection from European and Southwestern corn borer, control of western, northern and Mexican rootworm, plus tolerance to LIBERTY® Herbicide.

The stack trait, Syngenta’s Agrisure CB/LL/RW, recently received registration approval from the Environmental Protection Agency and will be marketed in eight elite Garst hybrids. The approval of the stacked insect traits marks another milestone for Syngenta — Garst’s parent company — in its strategy to offer growers more choices in traits and genetics.

“Garst’s new stacked hybrids show our ongoing commitment to give growers more options in the marketplace for innovative technology that helps increase yields and productivity,” says David Witherspoon, head of Garst Seed Company in Slater, Iowa. “With two powerful Agrisure traits, these new hybrids protect corn against some of the most devastating insect pests and help growers achieve the outstanding results they have come to expect with Garst® brand products.”

The Agrisure CB/LL component of the stack has demonstrated a 7 bu/ac yield advantage in comparison to the same genetics without the CB/LL trait. In addition to unsurpassed European corn borer control, the CB/LL trait also provides growers with excellent control of Southwestern corn borer, suppression of fall armyworm, Southern cornstalk borer and corn earworm. The Agrisure RW component of the stack has demonstrated best-in-class performance across extensive Syngenta and university field trials from 2004-2006. Specifically, in the 2006 trials, when stacked with CB/LL, Syngenta studies have shown a 42-bushel yield advantage in comparison to the same genetics without the RW or CB/LL traits. Growers who plant a corn hybrid with any Agrisure trait, including Agrisure CB/LL/RW, automatically receive the In-The-Bag assurances for added protection against adverse weather conditions and other occurrences that result in trait loss. In addition, growers are eligible for the AgriEdge® Corn Program, which provides growers customizable, season-long risk solutions through the full portfolio of Agrisure corn seed traits, Syngenta seed treatment, crop protection products and risk-management tools.

“Our new stack hybrids will be available for the 2007 planting season,” Witherspoon adds. “Growers considering continuous corn this year should look to the added value and benefits of these new Garst hybrids. Garst is also offering hybrids with other Agrisure traits, including Agrisure GT for glyphosate tolerance and Agrisure RW for rootworm control.”

The new Agrisure stack trait is pending approval in several states so growers should check with their local Garst sales representative on the availability of these products in their area.

For the 2007 planting season, Garst’s full corn lineup includes hybrids with 76 to 119 general relative maturities (GRM). The following eight new hybrids all contain the Agrisure CB trait for season-long protection from European and Southwestern corn borer, the Agrisure RW trait for industry-leading control of western, northern and Mexican rootworm, and the Agrisure LL trait for herbicide flexibility with the LibertyLink system.
