Garst Seed Company announces AgriEdge grain premium program, rewards growers who plant NK Brand Roundup Ready soybeans
Slater, Iowa
October 3, 2006

Garst continues to provide growers more choices, innovative solutions

Exceptional genetics, unparalleled field performance, risk management assurances and financial rewards. These all describe a new premium opportunity Garst Seed Company is offering growers who plant NK® brand Roundup Ready® soybeans in 2007.

Qualifying NK brand soybean seed purchases will receive a 9-cents-per-bushel incentive paid to the grower by Garst. Based on a 60-bushel-per-acre average, a grower would receive a premium of $5.40 per acre on qualifying units of NK soybean seed.

“All seed companies tout the performance of their genetics, but few, if any, provide growers a financial bonus for selecting what we strongly believe are the highest-performing soybean genetics on the market today,” says David Witherspoon, brand head of Garst. “Our top priority is always to provide the genetics, agronomic expertise and service that will help growers be successful. We have such confidence that the NK soybean genetics help Garst achieve this that we are confident in making a financial investment so growers can evaluate and see firsthand the performance of these soybeans.”

Witherspoon adds, “This latest initiative follows several others such as our Blue + Yellow = Green campaign that Garst has recently introduced to offer growers more choices, less risk and greater profit opportunities. We know this program is a bold move. It’s part of our commitment of being the innovative brand that is changing the landscape of the seed industry.”

The AgriEdge™ Grain Premium Program is available only on incremental sales of NK brand Roundup Ready soybeans. Those eligible for the premium include:

  • First-time purchasers of NK brand Roundup Ready soybeans from Garst who buy a minimum 200 units

  • Existing Garst customers who increase their NK brand soybean purchases by 200 units or more (only the incremental “new” business is eligible)

To be eligible for the premium from Garst, growers must enroll in the AgriEdge Grain Premium Program by Jan. 15, 2007.

Added Bonus for Participating in AgriEdge Program

Growers can also receive an additional 3-cents-per-bushel premium for each eligible crop protection product they use from Garst’s parent company Syngenta. For example, if they utilize CruiserMaxx™ Bean Seed Treatment and Quadris® fungicide, the total premium a grower receives increases from $5.40 to $9.00 per acre based on a 60-bushel-per-acre yield. The premium is based on final yield and will be paid up to a maximum 60 bushels per acre.

The AgriEdge soybean program is designed to help growers break through the current yield barriers and maximize economic returns. Evidence of the benefits of the AgriEdge program are supported by innovative work being done at Syngenta Learning Centers where agronomic practices are evaluated to help growers achieve 100+ bushel soybeans. “The AgriEdge soybean program is a unique program, combining agronomics, genetics, crop protection and seed treatments, as well as industry-leading risk management assurances and access to local and national soybean production information,” says Jon Scharingson, Agribusiness Marketing Manager, Soybeans, for Syngenta  “We believe that growers can overcome current yield challenges and potentially achieve 100-bushel yields by following the AgriEdge program.”
