The Arizona Grain
Research and Promotion Council reports that the state's
regulated wheat crop tested entirely negative for the presence
of Karnal bunt in 2006, the first time since 1999.
In the 213 fields (9,569
acres/3,872.6 hectares), USDA's Animal and Plant Health
Inspection Service (APHIS) found no bunted kernels pre-harvest,
and the single seed sample tested free of Karnal bunt spores.
California's four regulated fields
tested negative as did all 331 fields in Texas. Two of 12 Texas
seed samples did test positive for spores. |
