For producers
looking for corn hybrids that can produce more silage yield per
acre and deliver more milk per ton, there are the new
SilageProven™ hybrids, 29 new corn products from
DEKALB and Asgrow.
“Not all corn hybrids are created equal in terms
of the quality and amount of silage produced per acre,” says
Jason Hoag, U.S. Corn Marketing Manager for
Monsanto. “The hybrids
that we have designated as SilageProven have gone through
extensive quality analysis. Each DEKALB® and Asgrow® hybrid
selected for the SilageProven category has made the cut for
greater nutritional quality and silage tonnage based on a
stringent rating system.”
DEKALB and Asgrow silage samples from multiple
U.S. field trials are sent to Dairy One, an independent testing
laboratory, for extensive testing. The results from these
nutritional quality measurements are then combined with silage
yield data to calculate milk per ton and milk per acre values
using the Milk 2000 formula*.
“Only products that provide high net energy for
lactation and higher tonnage are designated as SilageProven,”
says Tracy Klingaman, U.S. Corn Product Manager for Monsanto.
“Here at DEKALB, we are taking a serious look at grower needs
and introducing hybrids that offer both favorable yields and a
quality feed product, making them suitable for both dairy and
beef cattle.
SilageProven corn products offer growers a broad
selection of built-in traits, such as Roundup Ready® Corn 2,
YieldGard® Corn Borer and YieldGard Rootworm, as well as
YieldGard Plus, which offers protection against corn rootworms,
corn borers and secondary pests. Also included in the
SilageProven corn product line is YieldGard Plus with Roundup
Ready Corn 2, providing maximum insect protection and tolerance
to Roundup agricultural herbicides in a single seed.
“DEKALB brand corn has the exclusive genetics
that deliver the root and stalk strength that crops need,” says
Hoag. “This superior root and stalk strength delivers higher
yield potential, ultimately increasing growers’ profit
potential.”

Roundup Ready crops contain a Roundup Ready® gene, which confers
tolerance to glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup®
agricultural herbicides.
Roundup
agricultural herbicides will kill crops that do not contain the
Roundup Ready gene.
