USDA proposes U.S. standards for grades of field grown leaf lettuce
Washington, DC
March 23, 2005

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is seeking comments on proposed voluntary U.S. Standards for Grades of Field Grown Leaf Lettuce.

AMS has received comments from a previous notice published in the Federal Register that the field grown leaf lettuce industry is interested in the creation of U.S. Standards for Grades of Field Grown Leaf Lettuce. The creation of a field grown leaf lettuce standard will provide a common language to facilitate trade.

AMS works with industry representatives and others to establish or revise U.S. standards for nearly 240 agricultural products. Industry uses the standards in the marketplace to specify acceptable quality and/or condition of commodities.

The request for comments will appear in the March 24 Federal Register. Comments must be received by May 23, and should be sent to David L. Priester, AMS Fruit & Vegetable Programs, USDA Stop 0240, 1400 Independence Ave., SW, Washington D.C. 20250. Comments may be e-mailed to FPBDocketClerk@usda.gov.

Copies of the notice are available at http://www.regulations.gov/.
