Development of lupins for end
use markets was recently highlighted at the 11th
annual International Lupin Conference.
Possible food uses are protein concentrates and isolates, milk
and milk substitutes.
Funded by GRDC, Jon
Clements, researcher with the
Centre for Legumes in
Mediterranean Agriculture (CLIMA), attended the conference
in Guadalajara, Mexico.
A broad range of topics were covered, such as lupins and health,
plant protection (including anthracnose disease), agronomy,
plant breeding, biochemistry, physiology and using lupins in
food.
Dr Mark Sweetingham and Dr Bevan Burchiell, both of the
Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, along with Dr
Clements, recently announced that their lobbying efforts in
Mexico succeeded in convincing the International Lupin
Association to hold its 2008 conference in Western Australia. |
