USDA proposes to revise U.S. standards for grades of Italian sprouting broccoli
Washington, DC
April 20, 2005

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is soliciting comments on the possible revision to the United States Standards for Grades of Italian Sprouting Broccoli.

USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service received a request from the Fruit and Vegetable Industry Advisory Committee to review all fresh fruit and vegetable grade standards and possibly develop other commodity grade standards to best serve the industry. Chartered by the agriculture secretary in July 2003, the committee makes recommendations on USDA programs to better meet the needs of the fruit and vegetable industry.

AMS works with industry representatives and others to establish or revise U.S. standards for nearly 240 agricultural products. Industry uses standards in the marketplace to specify acceptable quality and/or condition of commodities.

The proposed standards can be viewed at http://www.ams.usda.gov/fv/fpbdocketlist.htm.

The request for comments will appear in the April 21 Federal Register.

Comments must be received by June 20 and should be sent to David L. Priester, AMS Fruit & Vegetable Programs, USDA Stop 0240, 1400 Independence Ave., SW, Washington, DC 20250-0240.

Comments may be e-mailed to FPBDocketClerk@usda.gov.

Copies of the notice are also available from the same address.
