Syngenta to discontinue sales of Garst brand RR & Bt technology corn hybrids in Canada
Arva, Ontario
October 20, 2004

Syngenta Seeds Canada, Inc. announced today that effective immediately it is discontinuing sales of Garst brand in Canada. This decision was necessary because in Canada, Syngenta was not able to reach commercial agreement with the supplier of RR and Bt technology currently in Garst brand hybrids following Syngenta’s completion of the acquisition of Garst in early September.

This announcement discontinues the sale of Garst brand RR and Bt hybrids in Canada. Conventional hybrids formerly sold under Garst brand will continue to be sold under the NK brand in Canada. Sales of Garst brand products in the United States are not affected. Syngenta will cease all sales under the Garst brand name in Canada.

Syngenta is working with Garst employees, dealers and customers in Canada to mitigate the effects of the decision.

Syngenta will continue to provide Canada’s corn growers with leading conventional and technology hybrids.
Syngenta is a world-leading agribusiness committed to sustainable agriculture through innovative research and technology. The company is a leader in crop protection, and ranks third in the high-value commercial seeds market. Sales in 2003 were approximately US$ 6.6 billion.
